Under the instruction of Barbara Allen, our Percussion Ensemble curriculum includes many aspects of World drumming and our students don’t miss a beat. There is a different focus each semester. Students will study and perform a variety of styles, such as ethnic drumming of West Africa, the Middle East, Cuba and Brazil, parade styles, mallet ensembles, written ensembles for the classical and modern percussion battery, music for found objects, and original compositions. Various small ensembles are created specifically to maximize the core skills of the group, and students enjoy the camaraderie of playing with their fellow musicians.
